Actividad 2: CONOCE NUESTRAS FIESTAS/ Activity 2: GET TO KNOW OUR FESTIVITIES

ST.JORDI:
Hi! I’m going to tell you about St. Jordi. It is one of the most important celebrations in Catalonia. There’s a legend called St. Jordi. It explains how a boy killed a dragon because it wanted to kill the princess. Jordi was a young boy that loved the princess. For this reason, he protected her with his life. That legend is only for Catalonia and, in the rest of Spain they celebrate St. Jorge. This day is the 23th of April. There are a lot of books that tell different versions of the story but the end is always the same: “Jordi and the princess live forever together”. The tradition says that women must receive a red rose how her lover. Usually the lover is her boyfriend, her dad… But women must buy a book. A few years ago, the book was a surprise, the man didn’t know the tittle until he opened the present. Now, the book shops and flowershops prepare a stand in the center of town. His day there’s a tradition to celebrate the Jocs Florals, a letters competition around  3 topics: Love, Hope and Nation.

Women are given roses as a symbol of love .
This is a typical stand where roses are sold.

Men get book instead of roses, as it is the international day of the book.
